UniBrass, the world's only inter-university brass band contest organization, are very excited to announce the start of a multi-year collaboration with the world’s number one ranked brass band, Cory, to run the new Education Program, sponsored by Besson Instruments. Hosted at the University of Warwick, UK, on 14th February 2015, members from the Cory Band will run brass workshops for children and adults to promote and improve musicianship within the local area and at university.
"Besson was approached with the offer to develop this exciting movement in partnership with Cory and UniBrass and the movement is youth driven with great plans to develop bands throughout our universities. And with Besson in support of this engaging vision!
With the excellent support of such Besson ambassadors supplied from Cory, it offers a great partnership development" - Besson
On the success of last year’s workshop UniBrass are enlarging the education program to include adult classes, one for adults alone and a parent-and-child class as well as the traditional children’s workshop. All three classes will culminate in a performance within the Butterworth Hall, Warwick Arts Centre, in between competing university bands.
Cory Band will run the workshops as part of their teaching program, The Cory Academy, and the collaboration is being funded by Besson Instruments.
UniBrass Chair, Alexander Parker says “Working with a band as successful as Cory is such an honour and will make the workshops for the public a fantastic day. I’m really looking forward to UniBrass and Cory doing great things together in the coming years, inspiring people, both young and old, to continue playing brass instruments throughout their lives.
“I hope, that with the help of Cory and Besson, UniBrass will continue to inspire the creativity of the brass band movement as a whole.”
Musical Director of the Cory Band, Philip Harper, commented: "Cory is pleased to be linking up with the UniBrass organisation which has shown real ambition in the launch and development of its event in the past few years. This is a natural extension of our current Cory Academy outreach activity, and we look forward to seeing this partnership develop in the years to come. We would of course like to acknowledge the support of Besson Musical Instruments which is one of Cory Band's most important commercial partners, and whose instruments are one of the main reasons we have been able to maintain our position at the top for so long."
